Lessons from nature in 2021 and how our actions impact in future.

2021 started with a riot at Capitol hill shocking the nation and the world, showing how humans can go to extremes when motivated. But later on, nature showed us the sample of how it can devastate and impact our lives.

Pandemic continued to impact human lives in 2021, along with nature’s act with extreme heat, wildfires, heavy rains, floods, and recent midwest tornadoes. Everything shows how climate change is affecting the planet earth. We had disasters in places and times we didn’t expect. That is nature’s reaction to human evolution.

“We are the first generation to feel the effect of climate change and the last generation who can do something about it.”

– Barack Obama

To mention a few of nature’s acts, extreme heat in the north-western part of the US, reaching over 100°F. People had to run for air-conditioners as they were used to rainy and moderate temperatures. Even animals and plants were not able to cope up with the heat. Nearly 1 billion sea creatures on the coast of Vancouver died due to heat.

Many water resources dried up due to heatwaves, causing drought across the US and other dry regions around the world like Africa and the Middle East. Water reserves evaporate as heat increases, and plant habitats get dry. So do the soil, which makes it thirsty and sucks more water from reserves. We can see the impact on humans, animals, plants, the whole ecosystem.

Wildfires increased, burning acres of land and homes. It takes days, sometimes weeks to stop the wildfires. It adds more heat waves all around the area, causing air pollution and making lives difficult.

In other parts of the world, it is the redundancy of water, heavy rains, and floods. As temperature rise, the moisture content in the air increases which comes down as rain causing floods. Floods affect people’s lives, their homes, livelihood, impact the infrastructure of cities and towns.

Both extreme heat and rain, cause an impact on farming and cause food shortages.

As the sea level increases, we have to experience more and more destructions in the form of hurricanes, rain, and floods.

Humans evolved a lot in the past few decades, and have come to a position to discover life on other planets and build an elevator to space. At the same time, we have already done all the damage required to stumble the planet earth. We are so advanced that our focus has been always to better what we have invented.

Even though we actively participate in green challenges or activities to better our planet, we have reached a position where with just our existing survival the climate change is inevitable. It may be extended a few years if we take very extreme and extreme cautions otherwise we are going to see major natural calamities across the globe very soon than expected.

If necessity is the mother of invention, we have invented way more than we need. Our current necessity is to protect the planet earth so the human race can survive longer and we need to do whatever it takes to achieve it.

“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”

– Dr Jane Goodall, Scientist & Activist

I hope each one of us take actions to stop the global warming as much as possible and let our next generations to survive longer.
